The average electricity price on the Hungarian HUPX day-ahead market (DAM) rose to €124.67/MWh in June 2026. This compares with €106.51/MWh for May, when the average baseload price was reported. The DAM remained active during the month.
HUPX also recorded a higher average day-ahead peak price in June 2026. The figure reached €90.2/MWh, up 45.1% from the previous month. The change reflected stronger pricing during peak-hour periods.
Day-ahead volumes fall despite higher prices
Trading activity on the HUPX day-ahead market declined in June 2026. Total traded volume reached 2.38 million MWh, down 8.1% from May’s 2.59 million MWh. It was also 16.2% lower than the 2.84 million MWh recorded in June 2025.
Alongside the price increases, the reduction in traded volume indicated that participants reduced activity on the DAM compared with recent months. The figures were reported for June 2026 relative to both May and June 2025.
Intraday continuous trading rises
In contrast to the DAM, activity increased on the HUPX intraday continuous market. Traded volume rose to 1,143,415 MWh in June 2026. This represented an 11.2% increase compared with the previous month.
The intraday volume growth pointed to greater participation in shorter-term trading during hourly changes affecting renewable generation and demand patterns. It also reflected cross-border conditions referenced in the reporting.
Registered members expand across both markets
The number of market participants on HUPX continued to grow in June 2026. The day-ahead market had 130 registered members, six more than in May. The intraday continuous market counted 125 registered members.
The reported June figures placed emphasis on HUPX as a regional electricity trading platform connecting Central and Southeast European power markets. The combination of higher DAM prices, lower DAM volumes, increased intraday trading, and a larger participant base was cited as part of the overall outcome for the month.
