IBEX day-ahead and intraday volumes rise in January 2026

Electricity trading on the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) increased in January 2026, according to market figures. A total of 2,886,403.1 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market during the month. This represented an 11% rise compared with December 2025. The average daily traded volume reached 92,960.7 MWh, while overall volumes were 3.6% higher than in January 2025.

Day-ahead prices and market participation

Day-ahead pricing also moved higher over the month. The average baseload price in January stood at 148.55 euros/MWh, up 27% from December’s 117.25 euros/MWh. The average peak price increased to 172 euros/MWh, which was 31% higher month-on-month. Market participation expanded as well, with 150 registered participants on the day-ahead market, three more than in the previous month.

Record volumes for 27 January delivery

A new daily trading record was recorded for the 27 January delivery day. Volumes reached 107,207.43 MWh, exceeding the previous record of 104,445.8 MWh set for 14 January 2024. The increase was about 3%. The figures reflect higher activity on that specific delivery date within the day-ahead segment.

Intraday continuous market volumes and prices

On the intraday continuous market, total traded volumes rose in January 2026. A total of 665,583.4 MWh was traded, an increase of 8%. The average weighted intraday price reached 156.83 euros/MWh, up 25.9%. These changes point to firmer pricing trends alongside higher short-term trading activity.
