Portugal saw the largest weekly drop, with output down 19%, while Spain and France declined by 11% and 8.7%, respectively. Italy recorded the smallest decrease at 2.5%.
The weaker solar performance persisted in multiple countries after the August 24 week. Portugal and France posted declines for a second consecutive week, while Spain and Italy saw their fourth straight week of falling solar output. For the week beginning August 31, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting point to higher solar production in Spain and Italy. The same forecasts indicate a decline in solar generation for Germany.
Wind generation rises across major European markets in fourth August week
Wind power output increased across all major European electricity markets during the fourth week of August versus the previous week. Portugal recorded the strongest growth, with wind generation up by 60%. Germany followed with a 55% increase, while France and Spain rose by 27% and 23%, respectively. Italy registered the smallest increase at 4.6%.
For wind, several countries extended their run of gains into consecutive weeks. Germany, France, Portugal, and Spain recorded wind production increases for a second consecutive week. In parallel, Italy continued its positive trend for a third consecutive week of growth.
Topping records: Portugal’s August peak and France’s highest daily level since 2023
The fourth week of August also included notable daily records for wind generation. On August 24, Portugal reached 81 GWh, the highest level ever recorded for an August day. Later, on August 29, France generated 218 GWh, its highest daily wind production level for August since
2023.
