Electricity trading on the Croatian power exchange CROPEX totaled 912,694.6 MWh in January 2026, which was 8% lower than in December. The breakdown showed 658,973.3 MWh traded on the day-ahead market and 253,721.3 MWh on the intraday market. Compared with January 2025, total volumes were 21.2% lower.
Day-ahead pricing and volume averages
The average daily base price on the CROPEX day-ahead market in January reached 143.16 euros/MWh, up 26.6% from the previous month. The average euro-peak price increased to 165.66 euros/MWh, rising by 32.1% compared with December. Average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 21,257.2 MWh.
Intraday market price level
On the intraday market, the average price in January stood at 146.43 euros/MWh. This represented a 29.7% increase versus December.
CROPEX market setup and coupling milestones
CROPEX was launched on 11 March 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool, described as Europe’s leading electricity exchange. The exchange is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator HOPS and the Croatian electricity market operator HROTE. The intraday market began operations in April 2017.
On 19 June 2018, the CROPEX day-ahead market was coupled with MRC markets through the Croatian–Slovenian border.
