According to short-term indicators published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, Croatia recorded net electricity production of 1,255 GWh in March 2026. This represented a 13.5% year-on-year decline versus March 2025, when production totaled 1,451 GWh. The same indicators show changes across generation sources and cross-border electricity flows.
Electricity generation mix in March 2026
Hydropower plants generated 563 GWh of electricity, accounting for 44.9% of total net production. Thermal power plants produced 212 GWh, or 16.9%, while wind farms contributed 289 GWh, equivalent to 23% of generation. Solar power plants delivered 115 GWh, representing 9.2% of overall electricity production during the month.
Electricity trade: imports up, exports down
Croatia imported 1,090 GWh of electricity in March 2026. Imports were 14.7% higher than in the same month of the previous year, when they stood at 950 GWh. Electricity exports reached 701 GWh, which was 10.5% lower than March 2025 exports of 783 GWh.
Natural gas and crude oil output and trade
In the hydrocarbon sector, Croatia produced 62 million cubic meters of natural gas in March 2026. That figure was up 5.1% compared with the same month last year. Natural gas imports totaled 262 million cubic meters, a 37.9% increase year-on-year.
Crude oil and petroleum product volumes
Croatia’s crude oil production stood at 38,000 tons in March 2026, down 2.6% versus the previous year. Production of petroleum products reached 138,000 tons, significantly below the 276,000 tons recorded in March 2025.
