The Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) reported strong activity on its day-ahead market in June 2026, with electricity trading volumes reaching 2,707,995.2 MWh. The figure was 1% higher than the previous month and 18.5% above the same period a year earlier. The exchange also recorded an average daily traded volume of 90,266.5 MWh during June.
Price movements on the day-ahead market showed a split between baseload and peak levels. Average baseload prices fell to €98.08/MWh from €101.07/MWh in May, a decrease of about 3%. Average peak prices increased by 6% to €64.88/MWh, with higher prices occurring during periods of greater demand and tighter system conditions.
Day-ahead participation and liquidity on IBEX
IBEX said market liquidity continued to improve during June as participation increased. A total of 155 registered participants were active on the day-ahead market, which was one more than in the previous month. The exchange attributed the steady growth in active participants to continued confidence in exchange-based electricity trading.
The day-ahead results also reflected ongoing market transparency and price discovery activity within Southeast Europe’s power trading environment. IBEX’s role as a platform for organized trading was supported by the combination of higher volumes and increased participant numbers during the month. These changes were reported alongside the day-ahead volume and price developments for June.
Intraday continuous market volumes and pricing
Trading activity on IBEX’s intraday continuous market remained substantial in June 2026. Total intraday volumes reached 673,371.5 MWh, representing a 9% decline compared with May. Despite the lower volume, liquidity was described as solid across the session.
The average weighted intraday price edged down by 1% to €88.51/MWh. This pricing change was reported alongside the month-on-month reduction in intraday traded volumes. Together, the intraday figures were presented as part of overall trading performance during June.
Organized power market development in Bulgaria
The June data were presented as evidence of continued development in Bulgaria’s organized electricity market. The reported drivers included higher trading volumes, stronger market participation, and deeper regional integration associated with IBEX activity. The exchange linked these trends to broader changes affecting power trading across Southeast Europe.
IBEX also pointed to the role of rising renewable generation and increasing importance of cross-border electricity exchanges. Within that context, it said it expects its platform to play a growing role in improving market efficiency and price transparency across Southeast Europe. It also cited investment signals as an area supported by exchange-based trading activity during June.
