SEEPEX September trading volumes hit monthly high as power prices rise

Serbia’s SEEPEX day-ahead market reported its highest monthly trading volume in September. Average electricity prices also increased compared with August, according to the exchange data. The month’s activity was reflected in total turnover and average daily volumes.

Turnover reached 579,406.3 MWh in September. That figure was up 5.9% month on month and 26.6% year on year. Average daily volume stood at 19,313.5 MWh.

Day-ahead price levels for September

Pricing in the day-ahead market moved higher across key reference products. The monthly baseload price rose 9.7% to €150.01/MWh. The euro-peak average increased 14.1% to €131.83/MWh.

Peak-period electricity continued to trade below the full-day average. This indicated that the higher monthly prices did not remove the discount during conventional daytime delivery hours.

Intraday trading alongside day-ahead activity

The intraday market recorded 5,801 MWh of trading in September at an average price of €181.76/MWh. Intraday volume was equivalent to about 1% of day-ahead turnover. Day-ahead auctions therefore remained the dominant trading venue by volume.

The higher intraday average contrasted with the day-ahead pricing levels reported for the month. It also reflected a higher cost profile for adjusting positions closer to delivery, based on the intraday average price outcome.
