Serbia’s day-ahead electricity price increased by €18.2/MWh to €195.99/MWh for Wednesday delivery. The move came as prices fell across most neighbouring markets after Tuesday’s spike. Serbia’s discount to Hungary narrowed to €2.99/MWh.
Neighbouring day-ahead benchmarks retreat
On the HUPX benchmark, Hungary’s price fell by €34.9/MWh to €198.98/MWh. Romania’s day-ahead level dropped by €33.9/MWh to €197.89/MWh. Slovenia and Croatia declined by about €33/MWh.
The largest divergence was recorded versus Greece, where the price slid by €57.9/MWh to €153.87/MWh. That left Greek power at €45.11/MWh below Hungary.
Serbia’s rise driven by off-peak hours
In Serbia, the increase reflected higher prices outside the daytime peak. The peak-period average eased to €180.2/MWh from €184.9/MWh on Tuesday. Over the same period, the off-peak average climbed to €211.8/MWh from €170.7/MWh.
The highest hourly Serbian price reached €344.1/MWh, recorded at hour 20.
Higher prices in Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia
Prices also increased in Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia, while their daily averages stayed below Serbia’s level. Albania rose by €13.2/MWh to €194.05/MWh. Montenegro reached €166.36/MWh, and North Macedonia moved to €157.76/MWh.
Solar supply outlook and net import changes
A regional balance forecast pointed to stronger solar supply, rising by 2,119 MW from Tuesday to an average of 6,312 MW. Demand was projected higher by 637 MW, reaching 29,492 MW. Forecast net imports were set to fall by 774 MW to 1,466 MW.
The forecast figures align with the retreat seen in several day-ahead markets, but Serbia’s off-peak pricing remained firmer despite cheaper daytime electricity elsewhere.
Copper-border pricing focus shifts around Hungary and Romania
For cross-border traders, the immediate change was a compression around Hungary and Romania while Greece stayed substantially cheaper. With Serbia’s price now close to the two northern benchmarks, delivery timing and available border capacity became more consequential than the daily average alone.
