Solar photovoltaic generation changes across major markets
In the week of December 8, solar photovoltaic (PV) generation rose in several major European electricity markets compared with the previous week. Italy recorded the largest increase, up 41%, reversing the downward movement seen the week before. France followed with a 22% rise after two weeks of declines, while Germany increased by 0.7% for the second consecutive week.
PV output fell in other markets during the same period. Portugal saw a 16% drop, and Spain declined by 3.6%. Both countries marked their third consecutive week of lower PV generation.
Italian PV record on December 8 and next-week outlook
On December 8, Italy reached an all-time record for photovoltaic production in December, generating 58 GWh in a single day. The following week’s direction was outlined by forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting. For the week of December 15, AleaSoft expects PV generation to increase in Germany.
AleaSoft also forecast declines for PV output in Italy and Spain for the week of December 15. The projections indicate different regional trajectories for solar generation as the mid-December period progresses.
Wind generation declines during the week of December 8
Wind energy production decreased across most major European markets during the week of December 8. Italy experienced the largest fall, dropping by 72%, which marked its second consecutive week of decreases. Spain, France, and Portugal also recorded reductions of 51%, 41%, and 25%, respectively, after two weeks of growth.
Germany was the exception, with wind production rising by 29%. The increase followed a two-week period of declining wind output in Germany.
AleaSoft forecasts for wind output in the week of December 15
AleaSoft Energy Forecasting projected further divergence for wind generation in the week of December 15. The forecast calls for wind energy production to increase in Spain, France, and Italy. At the same time, AleaSoft expects declines in Germany and Portugal during that period.
