Day-ahead electricity trading in North Macedonia rises 9.6% in July 2026

North Macedonia’s day-ahead electricity exchange recorded 150,360.8 MWh of traded volume in July 2026, according to market operator MEMO. The figure marked an increase compared with both June and the same month of the previous year. MEMO reported that the rise in activity coincided with higher market-clearing prices.

July’s traded volume was 9.6% higher than in June. It was also 1.3% above the 135,072 MWh recorded in July 2025. Average daily turnover reached 4,850.3 MWh, reflecting continued growth in exchange-based electricity trading.

Higher clearing prices alongside increased volumes

The market-clearing price increased during July. The average price reached EUR 105.83/MWh, which MEMO said was 12.9% higher than in June. MEMO also reported a July peak-price indicator of EUR 73.40/MWh.

The data show that while exchange activity continued to expand, the higher clearing price translated into higher costs for market participants securing electricity during July. MEMO’s figures link the month’s volume growth with the movement in pricing within the organised day-ahead market.

Day-ahead exchange launched in May 2023

North Macedonia launched its day-ahead electricity exchange in May 2023. The initiative was aimed at strengthening market-based electricity trading and improving integration with regional power markets. MEMO’s latest data indicate that exchange activity continues to grow as more electricity is traded through the organised market.
