Romanian day-ahead electricity prices rise 26% in August

Romania’s average day-ahead electricity price increased to €151.16/MWh in August. The level was up 25.82% from July and 93.07% compared with a year earlier. The figures point to tighter conditions across regional power markets during the summer period.

Day-ahead pricing and baseload reference

In July, the average baseload price stood at €120.14/MWh. For August, the average day-ahead price reached €151.16/MWh. The month-on-month and year-on-year changes were reported as +25.82% and +93.07%, respectively.

Day-ahead trading volumes and transaction value

Day-ahead trading volume totaled 1.188 million MWh in August. This was around 1.1% lower than August 2025 but slightly higher than July. Average hourly traded volume was reported at 1,597.4 MWh.

The higher price translated into a larger value of day-ahead transactions, reaching €179.6 million. That compared with €143.3 million in July and €97.1 million a year earlier. The figures were presented alongside the volume data for August.

Intraday market developments

Intraday trading showed a stronger price increase than day-ahead in August. Around 120,528 MWh changed hands at an average of €141.04/MWh. The intraday average price was up 37.5% month on month and more than double the level recorded a year earlier.

Intraday volumes declined during August, falling 13.1% from July and 26.4% year on year. The intraday figures were reported separately from the day-ahead volume and pricing metrics.

Share of forecast net consumption

The source also provided a figure for the share of forecast net consumption linked to day-ahead trading. It stated that the day-ahead share was 31.41%. The same line labeled that figure as August 2025 rather than 2026.
