CROPEX, Croatia’s electricity exchange, has launched operations in Slovenia’s day-ahead market, extending its activity beyond its home bidding zone. The move comes as competition grows in Europe’s coupled electricity market. It gives participants another way to access Slovenia’s wholesale power market.
Trading began on October 21 under Slovenia’s Multi-NEMO Arrangement and the European Single Day-Ahead Coupling framework. Existing and new CROPEX members can now trade in both the Croatian and Slovenian bidding zones. The launch followed several months of technical, contractual and operational preparations.
Further expansion in Slovenia
CROPEX has operated in Croatia for more than a decade. Its entry into Slovenia marks a step in its regional expansion. The exchange is also preparing to enter Slovenia’s intraday market through the Single Intraday Coupling project.
Power exchanges across Central and Southeast Europe are increasingly competing across national borders. At the same time, they remain integrated through European market-coupling mechanisms.
