Electricity demand climbs across major European markets as temperatures rise

In the third week of June, electricity demand increased across all major European markets, extending the upward seasonal pattern seen versus the previous week. Italy recorded the largest rise at +12%, while Germany posted the smallest increase at +1.2%. Belgium, Portugal, the United Kingdom, France and Spain also reported growth. The gains ranged from +3.8% in Belgium to +8.2% in Spain.

Several countries sustained their demand momentum into a second consecutive week. Germany, France, Portugal, Italy and Belgium extended their growth trend for a second straight week. Spain continued its expansion for a fifth consecutive week of rising demand.

Cooling-driven demand supported by higher temperatures

Average temperatures rose across all analyzed markets during the same period. The temperature increases supported higher electricity consumption, with cooling demand cited as the main driver. Belgium recorded the largest temperature rise at +7.4°C, while Portugal saw the smallest increase at +2.1°C. In Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Germany and France, temperature increases fell within a range of +2.8°C to +6.3°C.

France was among the most affected markets by warmer conditions within that range. The reported temperature changes aligned with the broader increase in electricity demand across the region.
