Weekly average electricity prices increased across major European markets during the third week of July compared with the previous week, with France posting the largest rise and the Nordic region the smallest. The data are from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting. France recorded a weekly increase of 25%, followed by Germany at 21% and Spain at 18%. Other markets analysed saw increases ranging from 8.9% in the Netherlands to 12% in Italy and Portugal.
Weekly averages above €110/MWh except Nordic
During the week of 13 July, weekly average prices exceeded €110/MWh in most European electricity markets. The Nordic market was the only exception, with a weekly average of €57.36/MWh. Italy recorded the highest weekly average price at €161.23/MWh. Weekly averages across other markets ranged from €112.62/MWh in the Netherlands to €131.47/MWh in Great Britain.
The Nordic market stayed below €85/MWh throughout the entire third week of July. Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands also recorded daily averages below that level during the weekend. The lowest daily average price in the Nordic market for the week was on Sunday, 19 July, at €20.69/MWh.
Daily price pattern diverges across Europe
Across much of continental Europe, daily averages moved in the opposite direction to the Nordic market’s low levels. From Monday, 13 July, through Friday, 17 July, daily averages exceeded €100/MWh in most markets. Italy and Great Britain also remained above that threshold during the weekend.
Italy recorded the highest daily average price among the markets analysed on Thursday, 16 July, at €170.47/MWh. That figure was Italy’s highest daily average since 13 February 2025. Prices rose further to €172.56/MWh on Monday, 20 July, the highest level since 21 January 2025.
Spain and Portugal recorded a daily average of €138.11/MWh on 15 July. That was the highest price in both markets since 18 February 2025.
