SEEPEX day-ahead volumes fall in January 2026 as prices edge up

In January 2026, 404,970.3 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market at Serbia’s SEEPEX. The monthly total represented an 18.3% decline versus the previous month. On average, trading reached 13,063.6 MWh per day. Volumes were also 11.1% lower than in January 2025.

Alongside the volume decrease, prices on the day-ahead market moved higher. The average daily base price in January was 118.1 euros/MWh, up 1.4% from December. The average euro-peak price rose to 136.3 euros/MWh, an increase of 5.9%. These figures reflect changes within the same monthly trading period.

SEEPEX launch and ownership

SEEPEX was officially launched on 17 February 2016. At the start of operations, the exchange recorded a traded volume of 1,925 MWh. The platform is jointly owned by Serbia’s electricity transmission system operator EMS and the European Power Exchange, EPEX SPOT. The stated objective is to support a competitive, transparent and reliable electricity market in Serbia and southeastern Europe.

Intraday market introduced in July 2023

In addition to the day-ahead segment, SEEPEX introduced an intraday market in July 2023. The intraday platform was added to expand market liquidity and trading opportunities. This development forms part of the exchange’s broader market structure alongside day-ahead trading.
