In the week of June 15, photovoltaic generation increased across major European power markets, extending a short-term recovery versus the previous week. Germany posted the largest rise at +34%, followed by France at +33%. Italy recorded a smaller increase of +5.2%, while Portugal and Spain also reported gains of +10% and +13%, respectively.
France, Portugal, and Italy extended their growth streak for a second consecutive week. Germany and Spain reversed declines that had been recorded in the previous two weeks. The same period also included several record solar production days in selected markets.
Solar milestones during the week of June 15
France and Portugal set new all-time highs for photovoltaic output during the week. France peaked at 183 GWh on June 15, while Portugal reached 34 GWh on June 19. Both levels were described as record figures for their respective systems.
Spain and Italy also recorded their strongest solar output for a June day. Spain reached 251 GWh on June 18, and Italy posted 161 GWh on the same date. The figures were reported as reflecting continued expansion of solar penetration across southern Europe.
Forecasts for solar output into the week of June 22
For the week of June 22, forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicated further increases in solar generation in Germany and Italy. Spain was expected to see a decline in photovoltaic output over the same period. The outlook pointed to differing near-term conditions across markets.
The forecast divergence was linked to changing weather patterns and uneven solar resource availability across the continent. This contrasted with the earlier week’s broad-based gains across multiple power markets.
Wind generation drops across most European markets
During the third week of June, wind energy production declined sharply across most European markets. Portugal recorded the steepest fall at -62%, followed by France at -50%. Both markets extended their downward trend for a second consecutive week.
Germany, Italy, and Spain also saw significant declines of -49%, -43%, and -33%, respectively. Spain and Italy reversed earlier upward trends, while Germany ended a three-week growth streak.
Low wind output records for June
The period also included historically low wind output for June in several markets. Spain recorded just 43 GWh on June 16, its lowest June wind production in three years. Italy fell to 13 GWh on June 21, described as a multi-year low.
France registered wind output of 27 GWh on June 17, its weakest June level since 2021. These figures were presented as indicators of volatility in wind conditions during the month.
Wind outlook for the fourth week of June
For the fourth week of June, forecasts indicated partial recovery in wind generation across Portugal, France, Spain, and Italy. Germany was expected to continue facing weakness over the same period. The outlook described a mixed pattern across major markets.
AleaSoft reported that short-term dynamics differed between solar strength and wind variability during this phase of June trading conditions.
