European solar and wind output shifts across major markets, Feb 9–16

Solar photovoltaic generation changes week-on-week

From February 9 to the following week, solar photovoltaic output increased across most major European electricity markets compared with the previous week. Spain recorded the largest rise at 16%, extending an upward trend from the prior week. Germany posted a second consecutive weekly increase of 13%, while Portugal saw solar generation climb by 5%. Italy reported the smallest gain at 0.4%, continuing a positive pattern over the past two weeks.

In contrast, France experienced a 27% drop in photovoltaic generation after three consecutive weeks of growth. The Italian market also reached a new all-time high for February daily solar production, generating 89 GWh on Friday, February 13. AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects solar output during the week of February 16 to rise in Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Wind power weekly performance and daily record in France

For the week of February 9, wind energy showed mixed results across Europe. France recorded the largest weekly increase, rising by 38% for a second consecutive week. Spain and Portugal reversed declines from the previous week, with wind output increasing by 8.6% and 6.0%, respectively.

Germany and Italy moved in the opposite direction, with wind output falling by 17% in Germany and by 15% in Italy after three weeks of growth. France also set a new all-time high for February daily wind production on February 11, generating 380 GWh. For the week of February 16, AleaSoft forecasts indicate wind generation will increase in Italy and Germany, while output is expected to decrease in Portugal, Spain, and France.
