In Germany, photovoltaic output increased by 77% compared with the previous week, reversing the downward direction from the prior week. French photovoltaic production rose by 25% for the third consecutive week. Italy’s solar generation climbed 7.5% over the same comparison period.
After three weeks of declines, the Iberian Peninsula posted a 6.8% increase in solar photovoltaic production. Portugal was up 10%, while Spain recorded a 6.4% rise.
Daily solar levels in Italy and France
Italian and French markets also reached daily solar production levels not seen since November. On Thursday, February 5, Italy produced 69 GWh of solar energy, the highest level since November 12. Two days later, France reached 66 GWh, a figure last recorded on November 4.
For the week of February 9, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting expects photovoltaic generation to continue increasing in Germany, Italy, and Spain. The forecast points to continued upward movement across those three markets.
Wind generation mixed across Europe
Wind energy production showed mixed weekly trends across major European markets during the week of February 2. France recorded the largest increase at 30%, reversing the negative trend from the previous week. Italy’s wind output rose for a third consecutive week, increasing by 11%.
By contrast, declines were reported for the Iberian Peninsula and Germany. Spain’s wind generation fell 11%, continuing its downward trend, while Germany decreased by 2.7%. Portugal also declined slightly by 0.2% after reversing gains from the prior week.
February wind record and next-week outlook
Italy set an all-time high for wind energy production for a February day on Friday, February 6. The Italian market produced 174 GWh that day.
For the week of February 9, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting anticipates wind output will increase in Spain and France. It expects declines in Italy, Germany, and Portugal.
